The Haha Moment – Episode 2

The Haha Moment - Episode 2

It is interesting that how an anecdote connects a group of people over a good laugh. Surprise, embarrassment, shock followed by a chuckle or peals of laughter – a range of reactions that listeners/ readers relate to while visualizing themselves in the place of the narrator. Recently I started a series The Haha Moment – A Collection of Funny Anecdotes and I’m overwhelmed by the positive feedback and some really amusing stories. This week, two awesome bloggers Bexa and Nancy have shared their Haha Moments.

Surprise Strawberries!

“It’s a well-known fact in my family that I’m not a great gardener and all my plants sadly have a low life expectancy. Anyway, a few years ago I felt confident enough to try my hand at growing some strawberries. I planted my seeds and every morning I’d eagerly check on them searching for signs of life but as expected, nothing was really happening. I could never imagine this plant producing anything remotely strawberry related and as the time past by, I was feeling disheartened.

One day though, I woke up and to my amazement the plant had produced about five huge ripe juicy looking strawberries. I couldn’t believe my eyes! They were so big they had even fallen off their branches and were ready to eat. It was an actual miracle! I was so impressed with myself, I had visions of me buying my own allotment or something.

My dreams were short lived however, when my boyfriend at the time confessed he had actually gone to Tesco the night before and brought a pack of fresh strawberries and left them in the plant pot as a joke. I knew it was too good to be true but at least I got my strawberries in the end… ha ha.”

Never Talk to Strangers

“I have 2 wonderful, now grown children that I am deeply grateful to for putting so much laughter in my life. I should explain that the majority of the laughter came from us playing jokes on each other, scaring each other and any other wild things we could to keep the friendship bond present.

On my daughter’s thirteenth birthday her school was hosting a vintage fashion show. She wanted to be a part of this so her brother said he would go (begrudgingly) and that would be her birthday present from him. He was 19 at the time. My ex-husband came, as he always did, because family comes first and foremost to us both. We had such a great time watching all the “models” walk the run way showing the wonderful outfits. After the show, the gymnasium became full of quiet conversations while they set up for the gift auction that was to follow. I wanted to share something with my son so I called his name. No response. I called again. No response. Okay then, I tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention while saying his name. He turned, looked at me, and in a voice that resonated through the entire gymnasium bringing an eerie hush he stated: “Look lady. I don’t know who you are and you have been bothering me all night. LEAVE ME ALONE!” I have never been more mortified in my entire life. I could feel everyone staring at me. It only took about 10 seconds and a glance at my son’s grinning face for me to almost fall off my chair in the heartiest laugh I had in a long time. Kudos Brendan…game, set and match!”

“A photo of the actual after moment when the incident happened of my goofy son. You can see the shocked look on my ex-husband’s face! Lol!”
